Biting into a Burger "We Made" in the Southern Breeze
On a business trip through New Zealand, something more wonderful than the anticipated scenery unfolded. As our car wound along a coastal highway, a splash of bright color caught my eye—it was a burger truck we had designed and built two years prior, now parked quietly by the roadside of a small town. Like bumping into an old friend in a foreign land, a wave of surprise and instant familiarity washed over us.
We pulled over without hesitation. The truck looked just as we remembered, yet it was no longer a "project" confined to blueprints or our workshop floor. It had genuinely become part of the landscape: the vibrant yellow body under a brilliant blue sky, a few customers waiting leisurely nearby—the entire scene pulsed with life. Seeing it "breathe" in the real world, serving people we didn't know, felt strangely miraculous.
We didn't introduce ourselves. Instead, we joined the queue with keen interest, just like any other customer. It wasn't until the juice-dripping "Classic Cheeseburger" was handed to us that we finally conducted the ultimate test of our "creation."
To be honest, in that moment, we felt both nervous and expectant. We had designed its "body," but had never tasted what its "heart" could produce. Then came the first bite—the soft, fluffy bun, the charred, succulent patty, the sauce striking the perfect balance—and the satisfaction of "a dream finally given flavor" settled in, tangible and real.
We chatted with the owner. He was busy, but his eyes sparkled whenever he mentioned his business and this capable "partner" of his. He didn't recognize us, which, in a way, made us even happier. Because we knew what we had delivered to him was no longer a product needing "after-sales service," but a truly independent, reliable partner, creating tangible value for his venture.
This unexpected encounter felt like an "echo" from our past work, a perfect full circle. It reminded us that good design eventually travels beyond our sight, finds a corner of the world to settle in, and offers real, tangible—and delicious—support to everyday life, infused with the warmth of human connection.
More than just a pleasant tasting, it felt like a gift from time itself. Thank you to that gleaming food truck under the sun, and to the New Zealand sea breeze, for making this encounter so wonderfully flavorful.
